Jo Nesbo, 2023

About death and identity.

When a city's true self only comes out after summer ends.

A taste of the feed

  1. The monsters are gone; the pictures in their heads are not.

Somehow she projected a jab of cynicism into the words. I keep seeing Grievers. Their disgusting skin and blubber bodies, all those metal arms and spikes. It was way too close for comfort, Tom. How’re we gonna get something like that out of our heads?

The Scorch Trials · James Dashner

  2. The night has no floor. There is only the sound of your own thoughts.

I come dragging in with every muscle bruised inside and out, but my heart’s still racing and my thoughts are a tornado in my head. This is insomnia. All night, your thoughts are on the air. All night long, you’re thinking: Am I asleep? Have I slept?

    Fight Club · Chuck Palahniuk

  3. What crying is for, if not for lubricating the eyes.

I read somewhere, once, that crying defies scientific explanation. Tears are only meant to lubricate the eyes. There is no real reason for tear glands to overproduce tears at the behest of emotion. I think we cry to release the animal parts of us without losing our humanity. Because inside me is a beast that snarls and growls, and strains toward freedom, toward Tobias, and above all, toward life. And as hard as I try, I cannot kill it. So I sob into my hands instead.

    Insurgent · Veronica Roth
