Caesar's own dispatch from the front: eight years of sieges, ships and betrayed tribes, written in the third person by the man commanding them.
Caesar wrote the commentaries as political ammunition, sending them to Rome to shape his reputation; the third-person voice ('Caesar did this') keeps him sounding like history rather than a memoirist.
Feels like war, power and awe.
The enemy laughed at the Romans' little tower. Then it started moving.
